Perry Junior High School students are wrapping up their first week of learning in newly renovated classrooms.
Four classrooms that have been closed for construction since the summer, opened their doors to students on Oct. 28. A fifth classroom will open to students on Nov. 4.
The now modernized learning spaces include new:
- Flooring
- Ceilings
- Wall paint
- Lighting
- Data lines and jacks
- Clocks with integrated public address system speakers
- Energy efficient exterior window walls with spray foam insulation
There is still additional work that needs to be done in these rooms, including:
- Door/hardware replacement
- Window replacement
- Chilled beam heating/cooling unit installation
- Visual display unit installation
That work is expected to be completed by the end of summer 2025.
With four classrooms back in use, construction crews have started renovating the next block of five classrooms, working toward renovating every classroom in Perry.
Most of the construction at Perry is expected to be completed by the end of August 2025.
The construction at Perry is part of a capital improvement project referred to as Phase 1 of the Health, Energy and Academics Project.
Re-roofing and modified softball field work near completion
As part of the phase 1 project, re-roofing work at Perry and the development of a modified softball field near Hughes has been underway.
Re-roofing work is scheduled to be completed by the end of November 2024.
The softball field has been graded, sodded and seeded. The dugouts are under construction and are scheduled to be completed by the end of November 2024.
In spring 2025, crews will evaluate the sod and grass to determine when it will be acceptable for use. As it typically requires two growing seasons for the sod/grass to take root, it is expected the softball field will open during the 2025-26 school year.
