New Hartford students excel on the National Latin Exam

Ten New Hartford Central School District Students received awards on the 2024 National Latin Exam.

The National Latin Exam is administered each year to students studying Latin worldwide. The exam is an opportunity for students to receive recognition for their accomplishments in the classroom, according to the National Latin Exam website. Depending upon their exam score, students may earn certificates, medals, and even qualify for scholarships.

More than 100,000 students from all 50 states and 26 other countries participated in the exam at seven different levels ranging from introductory to advanced.

Perry Junior High School and New Hartford Senior High School students earned a total of 1 gold and 1 silver medal, along with 5 magna cum laude and 3 cum laude designations.

Gold Medal (Summa Cum Laude Designation)

  • Leah Brown – grade 10; Intermediate Latin Reading Comprehension Exam

Silver Medal (Maxima Cum Laude Designation)

  • Vincent Lin – grade 10; Intermediate Latin Reading Comprehension Exam

Magna Cum Laude Designation

  • Jerome Clive – grade 7; Introduction to Latin Exam
  • Colton Campbell – grade 8; Beginning Latin – 1st Time Exam 
  • Joe Schermerhorn – grade 8; Beginning Latin – 1st Time Exam
  • Felicia Huang – grade 10; Intermediate Latin Reading Comprehension Exam
  • Parker Putnam – grade 10; Intermediate Latin Reading Comprehension Exam

Cum Laude Designation

  • Benjamin Joldic – grade 7; Introduction to Latin Exam
  • Wasiq Arif – grade 7; Introduction to Latin Exam
  • Ramiro DeTraglia – grade 11; Advanced Latin Prose – 1st Time Exam
