The Community and School
Located near Utica, in Central New York State, New Hartford is a suburban community of 25,000 with a strong interest in academic achievement and higher education. New Hartford Senior High School offers comprehensive academic and extracurricular programs for students in grades 10 through 12. Students attend grades 7 through 9 at Ralph W. Perry Junior High School. Strong traditional college preparatory programs and dedicated faculties are hallmarks of the schools. Since 1997 the Senior High school has operated on a block schedule, which consists of four 83-minute blocks per day. Some courses run every day for one semester, while others run alternate days for one or two semesters. New Hartford offers a wide variety of extracurricular activities to students throughout the school year. Our athletic program takes place outside the school day while clubs meet during lunch and/or after school. New Hartford Central School District is fully accredited by the New York State Board of Regents. New Hartford Senior High School has been recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School in 2016 and 2022.

Honors and Advanced Placement courses at the Senior High School are self-selected by students. Honors work is available in English 9 H; English 10 H; Global History 1 H; AP Biology Prep H (last taught in 2022/23). Twenty Advanced Placement courses designated as “AP” on a transcript are available including: AP English Language; AP English Literature; AP European History; AP Macro Economics; AP Psychology; AP US Government & Politics; AP US History; AP Calculus AB; AP Calculus BC; AP Statistics; AP Computer Science A; AP Computer Science Principles; AP Biology; AP Chemistry; AP Environmental Science; AP Physics 1; AP Physics 2; AP French; AP Spanish; AP Studio Art.
New Hartford Senior High School has a dual-credit program with Mohawk Valley Community College (MVCC) where students take courses at New Hartford Senior High School and if they meet the college course requirements they earn colleges credits from MVCC. The eleven dual-credit courses designated with “(college course number)” on the transcript are: Accounting (AC110); Alg 2 & Trig Topics (MA115); AP French (FR201&202); AP Spanish (SP201&202); Elementary Stats (MA110); General Drawing (FA101); Intro. to Business (BM100); Mandarin 1 (FL111&112); Mandarin 2 (FL211&212); Personal Finance (BM108); Pre-Calculus (MA150).
From March 16, 2020 through the end of the school year classes were taught remotely due to COVID-19. For most of the 2020-21 school year we used a hybrid model (students attended in-person at least 2 days a week and remotely the other days) and there were times the District was fully remote. Some students opted to participate fully remotely for the year.

Five-Year Ranking of G.P.As
A student’s cumulative G.P.A. includes all courses completed except Physical Education and Driver Education, beginning with credit bearing courses taken at the Junior High School and ending with the student’s final semester in high school. When a course is re-taken, only the higher grade is used in the G.P.A. calculation. In accordance with school board policy, class rank is not published.
Honors courses receive a weight of 5 points and Advanced Placement courses receive a weight of 10 points in the weighted cumulative grade point average. Weighted cumulative grade point averages can exceed 100. Only Honors & Advanced Placement Courses listed on the front of our Profile receive the weights.
