In the coming weeks, construction crews will begin to set up equipment and materials outside of Perry Junior High School in preparation for capital improvement project work set to begin in early July.
The work includes:
- Softball field upgrades
- Asbestos abatement
- Boiler/hot water system replacement
As construction gets underway, the athletic fields at Perry will remain open for use, with the exception of the new softball field being constructed near Hughes Elementary School. Access to the building will be restricted to the pool area, which will remain open for community groups to use as work continues at the Senior High School pool. Work at the high school pool is expected to be completed by mid-August.
Construction will continue at Perry through the 2024-25 school year, including classroom upgrades, door and hardware replacement, ceiling replacement, lighting upgrades, and HVAC system upgrades. Administrators are working closely with project architects to minimize disruption to students, staff and daily building operations. Accommodations will include temporary alternate learning spaces for students within the building as blocks of classrooms are renovated, and night-shift construction.
The work is part of a $39.8 million capital project, referred to as phase 1 of the Health, Energy and Academics Capital Project initiative, which was approved by voters in December 2021. Most of the construction at Perry is expected to be completed by the end of August 2025.
Re-roofing work to begin at Hughes and Myles this summer
The capital project also includes re-roofing at Hughes and Myles elementary schools. Re-roofing at both buildings will begin this summer and is expected to be completed by September 2024.
The district anticipates most of the phase 1 capital project construction to be completed by winter 2025.
