Jan. 21, 2025
Beginning May 12, 2025, New Hartford Senior High School’s turf field and track will be closed for construction. Work at the athletic stadium will include track resurfacing, steeplechase addition, jump pit improvements, lacrosse ball stop replacement, LED lighting upgrades, perimeter fencing upgrades, and drainage improvements.
The stadium will remain closed through summer 2025 and is tentatively scheduled to reopen, after work is complete, by mid-August 2025. Administrators are actively seeking alternate arrangements to accommodate the district’s spring sports that will be impacted by the stadium closure. Once finalized, the alternate arrangements will be directly communicated to the affected teams.
The work is part of the capital improvement project referred to as Phase 1 of the Health, Energy and Academics Project, which was approved by voters in December 2021.

Phase 2 construction delayed until spring 2026
In December 2023, voters approved Phase 2 of the capital project initiative. The $44.7 million project includes renovations and upgrades at Bradley, Hughes, and Myles elementary schools, the Senior High School, the bus storage garage on Graham Avenue, and minor improvements at Perry Junior High School, including the food service storage building.
The district originally anticipated Phase 2 construction to begin in summer 2025; however, due to unforeseen supply chain delays for necessary electrical equipment, construction is now expected to begin in spring 2026.
The district expects Phase 2 construction to take approximately two years to complete.
