New Hartford basketball team honors district educators

Feb. 27, 2024

On Feb. 6, the New Hartford Central School District’s girls varsity basketball team hosted its first Teacher Appreciation Night.

The team selected a home game to be designated as Teacher Appreciation Night to honor district teachers who have had a positive impact on them. Each student-athlete on the team invited a teacher to attend the game.

The event included a special recognition, written by each student-athlete, acknowledging the impact the selected teacher has had on them.

“The best part of Teacher Appreciation Night was hearing my players ask if they could only pick one,” said Derek Richards, head coach of the girls varsity basketball team and math teacher at Ralph W. Perry Junior High School.

It’s a testament to the number of teachers in our district that are positively impacting our students both in and out of the classroom.
